Soren's past is unknown until he makes a confession to Ike that he is not fully beorc but is instead a branded, a cross between a beroc and laguz, and that he was raised by a woman who hated him and only took care of him out of some sense of duty that she didn't really possess. He then goes to say that he was later sold to a sage who thought he was a "spirit chamer" because of the visible red mark on his forehead and was trained to use magic by the sage. When the sage had died, Soren was lost. He could not speak, find food, or receive help from anyone. If it were not for one person who reached out to him he surely would have died. The one person who would listen to him, trust him, and accept him for who he was was Ike.

Soren, a staff-officer-in-training, is a young mage who serves as the tactical mind
of the Greil Mercenaries. He is a brilliant young man who's downside is his blunt manner
of speech which has led many to consider him cold and heartless and is oftentimes disliked
by the others--except for Ike whom he trusts more than any other person and who was the
only one that payed any attention to him during his time of need.
