& Mercenaries The Greil Mercenaries are a band of mercenaries founded by Greil, Ike's father, years before the game begins. Their base of operation is in a fort located in South-West Crimea. The Greil Mercenaries work to fufil the needs of the people and help them when they are in trouble and as a result they are quite loved by the people. The Greil Mercenaries consist of 11 members at the begining of the game, and even though they are not all blood related they consider themselves a "family" due to several members being invited to join because of not having any money or a place to live. With the younger members Greil is looked upon as a fatherly figure and is admired by everyone in the company. When Greil meets with the Black Knight, a mysterious figure from his past, he gets into a fight with him. Putting in little effort to defeat him, Greil is badly injured and eventually dies in Ike's arms. If not for hearing a roar from the Beast King of Gallia the Black Knight would have killed them both on the spot. After the death of Greil the mercenary company is passed down to Ike and he takes command of it in his father's place.
